WHO IS COMTO?

The mission of COMTO is to
ensure a level playing field and
maximum participation in the
transportation industry for
minority individuals, businesses
and communities of color through
advocacy, information sharing,
training, education and
professional development.

COMTO has thirty-nine (39)
chapters throughout the United
individuals, transportation
agencies, academic institutions,
Historically Underutilized
Businesses (HUBs). From
highways systems; from subways
to rail systems; and from port
authorities members represent
every facet of the transportation
industry.

Annual Programs include:
  • Garrett A. Morgan Day where
    local chapters host events on
    transportation careers
  • COMTO Legislative Day on the
    Hill.  COMTO members meet
    with members of congress to
    advocate for greater inclusion
    in the transportation industry.
  • National Meeting & Training
    Conference
  • CITY Internship Program
  • Youth Symposium
  • Congressional Black Caucus
    Legislative Workshop
OUR HISTORY
The Houston Chapter began in 1985 to meet the needs of the diverse members of the Houston transportation community.
Houston is a robust transportation hub with a large transit agency, 2 airports and the Port of Houston. The Houston Chapter is well
known through the country for innovating youth and young professionals programming. The Youth Symposium held during each
National Conference originated out of the Houston chapter.  Today the chapter hosts networking events, educational forums and
workshops and provides information about contracting opportunities in the region.

           David Johnson

A native of Decatur, Georgia, David Johnson and his family relocated to Houston, Texas in 2002. Since moving to Texas, the
Lord has blessed my family with sons Mason and Gavin.

David currently works for a large private transportation company as a Quality Control Manager where he enjoys a
challenging, yet fulfilling career.  Before entering the transportation field, he completed his undergraduate degree at the
University of North Carolina at Charlotte and recently earned an MBA at the University of Houston- Victoria.  

He also is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. and currently serves as the School Board President for the Mount
Calvary Lutheran Church Education Center.

Dear Friends,

Welcome to the Houston Chapter of the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO). We are committed to serving
our stakeholders in the greater Houston region. We host many events dedicated to educating our membership on all the exciting
things going on in the Houston transportation landscape and the business and professional opportunities that come with it. I hope
you’ll join us soon for a meeting or event. I look forward to meeting you!
